“Don't worry, Toby. You are a Really Useful Engine!”
― Thomas

You Can Do it, Toby! is a magazine story, illustrated using photographs from the television series.

Plot

Pulling milk tankers is one of Toby's favourite jobs as he likes visiting the farms to collect the milk. One morning, the Fat Controller asks him to take two tankers to the Tidmouth Dairy. He trundles along the line until he reaches Gordon's Hill. He climbs up the hill very slowly, until Gordon passes him. Gordon calls him a slowcoach and says that his job is not as important as pulling the express, making Toby feel miserable. He worries that the Fat Controller thinks that he is a really useless engine.

That night, the Fat Controller tells Toby that he will be working in Wellsworth yard tomorrow to help push engines up Gordon's Hill. The next morning, Toby meets Thomas at Wellsworth, and Thomas assures him that he is a really useful engine, but Toby is not so sure. Later that afternoon, the yard manager asks Toby to help Gordon up the hill, and Thomas once again assures him that he can do it.

Toby feels nervous as he buffers up behind Gordon, but as he pushes the train, he reminds himself that he is really useful. The express finally reaches the top of the hill, and Gordon apologises to Toby for being rude, telling him that he is a really useful engine which makes Toby very happy.
