Watch the Clock is a magazine story.

Plot

The Fat Controller is cross; Edward is late again - twice in two days. James is not very sympathetic and tells Edward he is not as fast as he used to be. Later, the Fat Controller gives Edward the job of fetching a special from Wellsworth. James overhears and volunteers himself for the job, insisting that, unlike Edward, he will be on time. However, Edward insists that he will complete the job on time and whizzes away. He collects the important passenger and races back to the Main Station. According to the station clock, Edward has made the journey in record time - much to James' amazement. The Fat Controller tells the two engines that the clock has lost time and the important passenger was needed to fix it - but Edward was still on time.
