Uphill and Down is a rhyming magazine story.
The Thin Controller was on Peter Sam's train which was to travel from Crovan's Gate to Top Station. They had a great journey, travelling uphill and down, and meeting engine friends on the way. Once they had reached Top Station, Peter Sam asks if Mr. Percival will be traveling back with them. The Thin Controller says he is not and Peter Sam wonders how he will get home. Mr. Percival went and fetched his brand new mountain bike and peddled off downhill.
- In the final illustration, Mr. Percival can be coloured in by the reader.
- Crovan's Gate is misspelled as "Crovansgate".
