Unhappy Landing is a 1985 annual story.
One day Percy tells Thomas that some men had just arrived at the airfield to jump out of an aeroplane with some parachutes. Thomas' driver explains that the men were from the army and had come for a special training exercise, but Thomas thought that jumping out of aeroplanes was silly. The next day when Thomas stopped at the station by the river, the stationmaster tells him that one of the soldiers had landed in the river and asks Thomas to take him back to the airfield. Thomas refuses at first, but after his driver reminded him where he would have been if Terence had not helped him out of the snow he quickly apologized and hurried to help the soldier. That night Thomas told Percy he was glad he had helped, but still thought jumping out of aeroplanes was silly.
