“Wait until Rocky hears there's more to my forest than trees!”

Trees and Tunnels is a magazine story.

One day, Henry and Rocky are collecting logs from the forest. Rocky dislikes the forest because he thinks there is nothing but trees. As they chuff along, Henry suddenly brakes hard. Rocky and the log cars nearly bounce off the rails and Rocky's crane arm swings into a pile of logs which are sent rolling down a slope. No one knows why Henry braked so suddenly, but Henry is sure he saw something ahead on the tracks. The guard is sure he saw something too. That night, Henry, the Fat Controller, and a ranger wait in the siding where the incident occurred. As the light fades, it becomes apparent that a family of badgers are living next to the line. As not to disturb them, the Fat Controller closes down the line. Henry cannot wait to tell Rocky the news.
