Thomas and the Hurricane is a book first published in 1992. It was written by Christopher Awdry and originally illustrated by Stephen Lings. It was later rereleased with My First Thomas-style illustrations.

A hurricane is sweeping across Sodor one night, and the next morning, Thomas, Percy, and Toby don't want to leave their shed. Thomas must, however, but he doesn't feel comfortable about the wind. As he passes by Elsbridge, they are shocked to see a game of football being played in the nearby field. When Thomas arrives at Knapford Junction, he sees James, who claims that he isn't afraid of the wind - he soon changes his mind, though, after the wind blows three signals down. Thomas and James are horrified and convince their drivers to advance them up the platform - and it's lucky that they do, for the station roof is blown clean off and sent crashing down on the platform. After being flagged through the station and taking on water, Thomas is finally on his way home. Near Elsbridge, the guard's emergency brake suddenly comes on. Thomas wonders why, although he soon finds out when he sees a huge tree sprawled across the line. He wonders how the guard could see it, when he finds that the football players had warned him. A week later, after the hurricane passes, the Fat Controller holds a party at Elsbridge to celebrate the football players' act.
