“Blistering buffers! I'm in trouble now!”
― Thomas

Ice Sculptures is a magazine story. An edited, shorter version of this story was released in 2008 (and again in 2014) with the title The Ice Train!.

Plot[]

One winter's day, Thomas puffs past the park where he spots some big shapes made from ice. The driver explains they are ice sculptures and are the work of an artist. Thomas thinks it's amazing and rushes off to tell the other engines.

He finds Percy who cannot accompany Thomas to the park as he has coal to deliver. Henry can't go either; he has to take passengers to the Harbour. Edward wants to go to the park, but his wheels have frozen up in the cold weather. Thomas searches the whole island, but no-one is free so he decides to go on his own. He backs into a siding, as close as he can get to the ice sculptures in the Park.

Thomas finds himself right in the middle of the exhibition and notices the sculptures starting to melt. Thomas had raced around for so long that his boiler has become red hot and it's turning the ice into slush. The Fat Controller is just about to scold Thomas when the sculptor himself says that he's so pleased that Thomas liked his art so much. The artist then asks Thomas to fetch a very large block of ice from the docks for an extra special sculpture.

Thomas waits until the block of ice is unloaded at the park and then goes to puff away. The artist stops him, tells him to park at the end of the siding and close his eyes. Thomas is very puzzled, but he does as instructed. After a long wait, Thomas opens his eyes and gasps at what he sees - the artist has made a special sculpture of Thomas himself! This time, Thomas doesn't need to fetch his friends because they have all come to the Park to see the amazing sculpture.
