The Foreign Engine (known as the Big City Engine in merchandise lines) is a tender engine from the LMS built at Crewe in May 1934.
The engine once stayed the night in Vicarstown with Gordon and Duck. When Gordon remembered a trip to King's Cross in his youth, the engine told him he went to Euston, and Duck replied he really went to Paddington (In fact, all three were right, due to London being made up of more than one station). The argument continued even after the engine had left the next day.
The engine is based on an original build LMS "Patriot" 4-6-0.
The engine is painted dark green with red lining and grey wheels and cylinders. He presumably has a British Railways' crest on his tender. The Wooden Railway and Take-n-Play models have an emblem on his tender with the letters BCE in red.
- The story Gordon Goes Foreign from The Eight Famous Engines was going to be adapted for the television series. In order to create The Foreign Engine, the production crew were going to use Henry's model and adapt it with a new face and smoke deflectors.
All of the merchandise is under the name "Big City Engine"
