- “This is the Story Train!”
- ― Thomas
Story Train is a magazine story.
Plot
Thomas is puffing past the library and wonders why there's a long line of children outside. His driver explains that the library is closing for repairs and the children say they want to change their books and listen to storytime. The librarian tells them they'll have to wait until the library re-opens.
Thomas chuffs back to the Main Station where his passengers all disembark before going on his break. Annie and Clarabel refuse to move; once again, Thomas has forgotten that they need to be checked for lost property before their break. When the driver checks Annie's seats, he finds a storybook. Meanwhile, the fireman checks Clarabel and finds a tape player with a tape inside for the story 'Little Red Riding Hood'. Both items are given to the Fat Controller who takes them to the lost property cupboard at the end of the platform. When the Fat Controller opens the cupboard door, lots more books fall out. Thomas is surprised by the ammount of books that get left on trains. Then, Thomas has an idea which he shares with the controller.
Thomas sets off for the library and picks up the librarian. Later, Thomas puffs around his branch line with his carriages full of children. The Fat Controller has handed out the lost books for the children to read. Meanwhile, in Clarabel, the librarian reads the children a story. Thomas is very proud of being the Story Train.
