“Gosh, it really is a magic carpet!”
― Percy

Percy and the Magic Carpet is a magazine story, illustrated using photographs from the television series.

Plot

It is the day of the Annual Flower Show on Sodor and Percy is given a special job. He has to collect his special from Brendam Bay and get it to Maithwaite before a famous opera singer arrives to open the show.

When Percy arrives at Brendam Bay, he is disappointed to find that his special is just a roll of carpet. Salty suggests that it may be a magic carpet and he teaches Percy the magic word "abracadabra". Salty says that the magic word might make the carpet fly.

Percy sets off, but the magic carpet comes loose and flutters away. Percy thinks it really must be a magic carpet and sets off after it. The carpet finally comes to rest on the railway track with Thomas steaming straight towards it. Percy is concerned that the carpet may derail Thomas and quickly shouts "abracadabra". Just then, a gust of wind lifts the carpet back onto Percy's flatbed.

When the Fat Controller hears about Percy's adventure, he explains that there is no such things as magic carpets and magic words and that it was probably just the wind. Percy is not too sure.
