Percy's New Whistle is a magazine story, illustrated using photographs from the television series.

Plot

Percy blows his whistle at 'Arry and Bert and they blows their horns at Percy. 'Arry and Bert thinks diesels can do better than steam engines, but Percy disagrees with them and tells them his whistle is better than their horns. So Percy practices blowing his whistle loudly. Percy came to 'Arry and Bert, and blew his whistle as loud as he could. 'Arry and Bert were surprised. Next, he surprised Thomas with his loud whistle and Thomas bashed into his trucks. Percy blew his whistle at Bertie and made him skid across the road. Thomas is cross with Percy for being careless and he promised Thomas not to do it again. The next morning, Percy wanted to blow his whistle, so he did. Trevor heard his whistle and bumped into logs, one of the logs turned into a giant snowball and crashed into Percy. He was trapped. Sir Topham Hatt was cross with Percy and tells him to use his whistle when the time is right. Percy came out of the tunnel and stopped at the snow drift ahead of him. He heard Thomas' whistle, Percy blew his whistle the loudest of all. Thomas heard his whistle and stopped just in time. Sir Topham Hatt is proud of Percy and he is a really useful engine.
