Thomas is having a busy day. He has to collect milk from the dairy to make ice cream and butter from the farm - all in time for a party. After collecting the milk, Thomas meets up with Emily. She teases Thomas for going slow. Thomas tells her that the dairy manager has told him to go slow, but he still races Emily. The churns shake violently as Thomas buckets along the rails. When he reaches the ice cream factory, the manager finds that the milk is almost butter. Thomas feels awful; he has to return to the dairy to collect fresh milk.
Thomas is worried as the cakes are now going to be late for the party. He suddenly has an idea and chuffs even faster with the old milk all the way to the bakery. The baker is surprised when he looks into the churns. The "almost-butter" is now butter and there is enough to make all of the cakes.
