Sorry it's not a culvert as I stated in my edit. I know where the illustration is based from and it's basicialy a lane going through a bit of farm land, not suitabel for typical road vehicles. The georgraphy makes little sence to be honest but my impression is that it's below Bulgy's bridge, which is half a mile north of Haultraugh.
Oh sorry, I didn't see your edit. I think I know which farm lane you are talking about (ResourceAndSagacityRS3.png ?). I think to avoid further confusion we could make an article for this part of the line(?). Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for the heads-up.
Also, since we are already bringing up the different 'bridges' on Duck's line, what structure do you think this is- Donald'sDuckRS1.png (the structure Duck is on). It probably is a dam, I just wanted to make sure with you incase it is something else.
Yep that's one and the same. I don't think the location for the illustration is mentioned in IoS but when I was going on about the geography not making sense I meant in real life vs the maps of Sodor. It and the other you mentioned are both along the coast line a couple of miles away from Towyn. Seems Peter and Gunvor took a few photos from their car when working on Very Old Engines and then used them later on.
Lasty it's an underpass to access the otherside of the line. Back in the day sleepers/lengths of wood were laid across the I beams going across the track bed but since then it has been redone.
The RWS illustration is misleading as it makes it look like the sea to the left but uncropped you would see that it is actually an estuary.
Interesting note about the estuary at the underpass. I admire how Peter and Gunvor took photos when they were in Wales - saved them some time when illustrating for OTWE. They were probably trying to impress Awdry, knowing his standards when it came to illustrating.
Yeah and just next to it was a sort of mine spur, you can just about make out a man and a cart in the illutration. I've a photoshop in limbo but can show it here if you like when I get round to finishing it.
Bulgy's Bridge itself i've not ben able to find but the Edwards' used several photos during their stint and sometimes even combined two to form a hybrid so with artistic lience on top it's tricky. Likewise Haltraugh is an enimga to me but Penhelig Hault to the north of Towyn does seem to share some character in a general sense, who knows :P
The place was known as Frongoch Quarry but I would be lying if I said that I understood the layout of it. From what I can gather the industrial track went against the branch at a right angle but also there was a network going under the line (the now walkway seen in the above photo) and it also seems to have gone over it, which is where the photo was taken from I belive as Frongoch tunnel should be a little futher south. Unfortunately I didn't get that close to it as I was under the impression the road I was going back home along on would come back to the shoreline but I only got further away. Next time i'm travelling from the Talyllyn I'll try to work it out properly by finding a turnoff for the A493 road.
There aren't that many more direct copies that have been discovered by fans but it would be much easier to show you if you're a member on SiF as i've got the locations laid out side by side on there, are you a member by chance?
Sorry for the long wait. Thanks for sharing that. I am not a member of SiF but will try to sign up (if that is an option). Anyway, the Snowdon photos are really nice. The one thing that stood out was that the Edwards didn't really include the greenery seen on the photos in some of the illistrations (That might just be me).
No worries and yes you're right about the lack of greenery. Hadn't really picked up on that to be honest but I guess they must of visited outside of the summer period (that or it was a particularly poor Welsh summer).
It's a well run and friendly forum actually. Registration is free and quite easy, you just have to wait a day or so for it to go through and then you can read and post as little or as much as you like. I'm 'Sleepr Agent' there so you can find me easily enough through a members search or by going into the modelling thread section, feel free to drop a PM so I know your handle.
Just so that you know, other than the Wood Frankie and Etienne, all that is on the photo/GIF, are things we have seen already. It is a Super Station with a circuit of track, on which there is a mix of Adventures (Lexi, Charlie, Hector, etc) and Wood (Salty, Merlin, Harvey, etc) items.
All in all, just a Christmas advert for the Super Station.
Well thank you for informing me Jdogman. In that case, I apologize. Your strike has been removed. When uploading images I advise you to select the Licensing box and click "This will be used in a way that qualifies as fair use under US law", this would allow admins to differentiate between what would be consider fanmade content and what isn't. Again, I apologize for this misunderstanding.
I agree. But I still don't see the point of all the other minor boats to have their individual pages. You see we currently have a 'Speedboats', 'Fishing Boats', 'Tramp Steamers' and 'Barges' article, where each minor boat gets its own sub-page. Then we have the 'Boats' page which doesn't fit into the pattern. That is why I tried to turn it into a 'Tugboat' page.
So if let's say someone wanted to know about boats on Sodor. They would then have the following options to go to:
