“He's so special, he can't even run on ordinary coal!”
― 'Arry and Bert teasing Henry

Henry's Happy Coal is a magazine story, it was illustrated by using images from the CGI television series.

Plot

Henry is asked by the Fat Controller to pick up a special visitor. When he goes to fill his tender with coal, 'Arry and Bert tease him about using special coal. Henry is determined to impress the visitor and fills up with ordinary coal instead.

At Brendam Docks, Henry picks up the special visitor. Henry feels a little nervous; the visitor looks very important, and Henry is to take him to the Sodor Steamworks and the Search and Rescue Centre. Not long after setting off, Henry starts to feel very poorly. At the Sodor Steamworks, Henry meets 'Arry and Bert who tease him by calling him "Mr. Special Steam". Henry is embarrassed by this and steams away.

While travelling down a quiet branch line, Henry starts puffing out smelly, thick, black smoke and only just makes it to the Search and Rescue Centre. 'Arry and Bert are there as well and they tease him about having a sooty face from all of the black smoke. The visitor is worried about Henry, but Henry insists that he is fine.

Henry chuffs away to meet the Fat Controller at the Duke and Duchess of Boxford's Summer House. Once there, Henry explains that he only wanted to be like all of the other engines and the Fat Controller laughs. He tells Henry that the special visitor is the Railway Coal Inspector who has come to see a very special engine using special coal. Now Henry cannot wait to fill up with special coal and show off his proud puffing.
