Gordon had many siblings who were the LNER A1 and A3 Pacifics built between 1922 and 1935. They were the remaining relatives of Gordon who were mentioned in passing in The Railway Series.
Biography
The Railway Series
The Fat Controller mentioned that Gordon's brothers and sisters had all been scrapped, with the exception of Flying Scotsman. This made Gordon feel sad, so the Fat Controller arranged for Flying Scotsman to visit in order to cheer him up. [1]
Gordon told Donald and Douglas that he and his siblings used to be painted green. [2] Gordon also bought up the fact he was green in his youth while talking to the Big City Engine. [3]
Annuals
The Fat Controller has been so impressed with Gordon that he has wished he could purchase another engine just like him. However, he has vowed to never tell Gordon this as it would make the big blue engine jealous.
Thomas & Friends
In the Thomas & Friends television series, Gordon's brother the Flying Scotsman first appeared in the episode, Tender Engines, with only his tenders being shown. Flying Scotsman was not referred to by name and Gordon did not appear to recognise him.
The Flying Scotsman makes his first physical appearance in The Great Race, where he tells Gordon and Thomas at Vicarstown station that he had been invited to participate in the Great Railway Show on the Mainland. He and Gordon compete in the Great Race at the event. Flying Scotsman made multiple supplemental across the rest of series from this point forward.
Other than Flying Scotsman, scrapped engines of the same class have been seen throughout various scrapyards on Sodor. One of these scrapped engines was the Halloween Engine.
Magazine Stories
In the Thomas & Friends magazine stories, there are two members of the class appear, Flying Thistle and The Poster Engine.

Trivia
- Seventy-nine LNER A1 and A3 Pacifics were built: Fifty-two A1s were built, fifty-one of those were rebuilt into A3s, the first one was rebuilt into an A1/1 and twenty-seven A3s were newly built. Lemberg and Pretty Polly were other members of this class. The Flying Thistle and a workshop engine are based on them. A list of all these locomotives can be found here.
- All of Gordon's siblings were named after racehorses, with the exceptions of Great Northern, Sir Frederick Banbury, Flying Scotsman, Prince of Wales, Centenary and Dick Turpin (Although a racehorse was later given the name Dick Turpin in 1933, nine years after the engine received its name)
- A few of Gordon's siblings were named after female racehorses. This would make them his sisters like Blink Bonny, Pretty Polly, Tagalie, Tranquil, Sceptre, Shotover and Book Law.
- Gordon's siblings were also Mallard, Green Arrow and Spencer's cousins.
- In the television series, scrapped engines of the same class have been seen throughout various scrapyards on Sodor. One of these scrapped engines was the Halloween Engine.
