Toby's Afternoon Off is a magazine story illustrated using photographs from the television series.

Plot

One day, Toby has finished all of his jobs early and decides to spend the rest of the day at the farm. As he is just leaving when Sir Topham Hatt gives him another job; to help Cranky unload cargo at the docks. Toby likes to be useful, but now he would not be able to visit the farm. Toby decides that he should ask his friend Salty for help, but Salty is just leaving with a piston rod. Later, Toby sees Henry in a siding and tells him all about Salty being too busy to help him. Henry tells Toby that Salty was helping him because he broke down. Toby concludes that Salty was helping a friend and that is better than an afternoon off any day.
