The Fat Controller, re-titled Sir Topham Hatt in North American releases and The Fat Controller's Busy Day in 2015, is the fiftieth book in the My Thomas Story Library series.

Plot

Henry, Gordon, and James are refusing to work, so The Fat Controller shuts them up in the shed and buys a new engine named Percy to help with the work.

  • This book is based on the story, "Trouble in the Shed" from the Railway Series book, Troublesome Engines.
  • Lady Hatt appears in this book, but she does not appear in the actual episode.
  • The blue Austerity tank engine next to Percy in the workshop resembles Wilbert. This can be confirmed by looking at the engine's colours. In addition, there is a red saddle tank engine that resembles Percy himself, albeit without any visible facial features.
  • This book was featured as a read along on the Read and Play! app with narration by Mark Moraghan.

Goofs

  • Henry is in his new shape, even though this book takes place before The Flying Kipper.
  • James' wheels are grey.
  • The red saddle tank engine to Percy's right, while it does have a face, lacks any sort of notable facial features.
