Water towers and water cranes (also known as standpipes and water columns) are structures used to replenish the water supplies of steam engines. Water towers consist of a tank atop an iron column or scaffold, while water cranes source their water from pipes or a tank underground. Numerous amounts of these can be seen on railways on Sodor and around the world.
