Police cars are driven by policemen and are used on patrol. They appeared in various magazines stories and later the television series.
Technical Details
Basis
In the magazines, the police cars are loosely based on a 1930s or 1940s Wolseley or Riley saloon. In the television series, the police cars are modified from Taxis and as a result are based on Austin London Taxis of 1936. In the book Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure the police cars are based on London black cabs, taxis of the same basis appear in Etienne Visits London.
Livery
The police cars are painted either purple or blue with 'POLICE' and two stripes painted on the sides in white. They have either a flashing blue roof-mounted light or a 'POLICE' sign over the windscreen.
