“Did asking nicely help you get your job done quickly?"
"Yes, but I'm glad it's over. Now out of my way!"
"At least she asks nicely sometimes.”
― Thomas, Emily and Trevor

Emily's Adventure is a magazine story, it was illustrated by using photographs from the television series.

Plot

One night, there is a terrible storm on Sodor. Trees are blown over, a water-tower gets knocked down and the roof blows right off Farmer McColl's barn. Emily is very pleased to be in her safe, warm shed.

The next day, Emily is sent to collect some timber to fix Farmer McColl's barn. Emily wants to do the job quickly, but she is soon stopped by a fallen tree. Trevor is trying hard to remove it. Finally, the old traction engine manages to clear the track. Rude Emily doesn't even say "thank you".

Next, Emily comes across the fallen water-tower. Elizabeth is trying to push it off the track. Emily blows her whistle to get Elizabeth to hurry up, but the louder she whistles, the slower Elizabeth seems to go. Elizabeth tells Emily to try asking nicely and, after taking a deep breath, she does. Elizabeth smiles and clears the line quickly. Now, whenever something is blocking her track, Emily always says "please" and "thank you".

On her way back from the farm, Emily stops for some water. Thomas asks if asking nicely helped her to get her job done quicker. Emily tells him it did and tells him to get out of her way. Trevor laughs; at least Emily asks nicely sometimes.
