Bill and Ben is the twelfth book in the My Thomas Story Library series.

Plot

Bill and Ben are working at the quarry, which they found quite boring, when Ben heard a strange noise. Bill could not hear anything, though. The quarrymaster told them they needed to go and see the Fat Controller at the harbour. The twins thought they were in trouble, but they were not - the Fat Controller was only asking them to look after Edward's trucks, as he was taking children on a special trip. The trucks tricked Bill and Ben into thinking they were nice, but they were actually telling Bill and Ben to shunt them into the wrong places. The twins followed the truck's instructions, but blocked Gordon in by mistake. The Fat Controller was angry with them and told them to clear up the mess they had made. They went back to the quarry once they had finished and Bill heard a strange noise. Suddenly, the alarm rang and the quarry master started shouting to clear the quarry. The workmen clambered into Bill and Ben's trucks and as they pulled out of the quarry, they heard a cry - one of the workmen had been left behind. Ben waited as the workman managed to jump aboard and the twins set off again, getting away just in time. The Fat Controller arrived with Edward to congratulate them with three cheers.
