A Special Treat is a rhyming magazine story.

Diesel was feeling fed up and so were the other engines as the rain was pouring outside their shed. They all agree that what they need is a celebration! The Fat Controller thought a celebration would be grand and announces that they can have the day off and hold a party in the sheds. So preparations got underway, a date was set, people were invited, and the engines grew more and more excited.

On the big day, even Diesel had to admit he no longer felt sad and Thomas looked splendid in his party hat! Everyone had a splendid time and next day, whilst back on his branch line, Thomas thanked the Fat Controller for a splendid time.
